Dory is an amazing guide. She is friendly and has in depth knowledge of Italian cuisine. Really enjoyed all the food pairings and seeing how "real Italians" eat. Great to get away from the touristy areas.

This was a great location and tour from our hotel in the Vatican area. We stayed at the Crown Plaza St. Peter’s so we were not far from our meeting point. We enjoyed the history and details behind pestos, cheeses, truffles, and cured meats. To our surprise the pizza ship was a spot visited by Anthony Bourdain which made our experience even more memorable. Since our tour we have tried other pizza places and still talk about how this place “Bonci” still had the best pizza we tried in Italy. So light airy and crisp. As the night went on we also tried more meats and pasta. Al Giardino del Gator e laVolpe was amazing. We had 3 options for pasta and each of us selected a different one to share. We were stuffed by the end of the tour. Our favorite was the pillowy cheesy gnocchi with four cheeses. It was amazing and all the other families on our tour raved about it as well. The timing of our tour later in the day was a plus. Avoiding the heat and enjoying food around dinner time was very nice. It was too bad it was a national holiday. So many of the places surrounding the tour route were closed. We wondered what it would have been like to see more shops open to experience more of this district.

No Food at This Food Tour - SKIP IT

I live in Rome and so I have been on other food tours here in the past. There is usually plenty of food and wine and the experience is very pleasant and money well spent. Our host was Angela, and even her expertise and excellent historical stories couldn’t overcome the lack of food! For $125, there should have been food. Based on the menus we saw, I suspect we received maybe $25 worth of food and wine over 4 hours. For example at the pizza stop, there were two normal sized pizzas for 15 people. When I asked if more food was coming, I was told one small slice per person. Three hours in to the tour, we had eaten one tiny slice of pizza, 3 tiny pieces of bread, three very thin small slices of prosciutto and perhaps 6 tiny bites of cheese. While we did eventually have a trappezino and pasta, it was three hours into the tour and we were starving! Each stop allowed for one small glass of wine-one can easily imagine the size of these glasses with only two bottles of wine for 15 people. To add insult to injury, some of the stops were a 20 minute walk apart. Save your money and go out for a nice dinner or take the Trastevere food tour. The Trastevere tour is the same cost but they provide plenty of food and wine so you don’t walk away starving! Angela was a wonderful host but one really comes for an enjoyable dinner experience and the dinner was markedly absent! BTW, the only thing saving this from a one star was Angela. She managed a starving group with excellent professionalism.
