A moving experience

Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us many facts about the history of this awful place. We were even given some free time to explore the area ourselves. The public transport to the destination was easy and straight forward.

Insightful Tour of Dachau

Jaimie was an excellent tour guide. We got a lot more out of our visit than if we had done it on our own. He has a vast knowledge of Dachau and answered a lot of questions. Jaimie has a great personality and was very considerate of the group, making frequent stops in the shade on a hot day. We met near the main train station and traveled as a group via train and bus.

Thank you, Kevin! I'm glad that you appreciated the stops along the way in shady spots - it was a very hot day!

If We Don't Learn From Our Past, Then We Are Bound to Repeat It
Jada_R
, Jul 2022
I had grave reservations about visiting the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial. Yes, the pun is intended. I had nightmares about the crematoriums from watching a 60 Minutes news clip. So what changed my mind? If we don't learn from our mistakes then we are bound to repeat them. My tour guide Jaime also believes this. I could tell that he had a passion for sharing his extensive knowledge of Dachau with visitors. Before we entered the memorial he gave us a very detailed historical time line of Adolf Hitler's rise to power. Politics for any country can be confusing but Jaime's explanation made it easy for visitors to follow. I also watched his interactions with my fellow travelers who also had that passion to learn from the past.Guests, including me, peppered Jaime with questions. I learned just as much from my fellow travelers' questions. Once again, Jaime throughly answered them. At the end of the tour Jaime concluded with this statement: "You could have visited the Nymphburg Palace. Or you could have gone to a beer hall. But you chose to come to Dachau because this is important (I'm summarizing here)." Indeed it is. I left that place feeling so angry because how could we have allowed men like Hitler to come to power? Andy why are we not learning from the past? Yet I felt exhilarated that I did make that choice to visit the memorial I was on the verge of crying. As someone who has done a great deal of research about the Asia-Pacific theater of World War II I felt that this tour with Jaime as my guide competed my perspective on the war. I was also extremely happy that there are others who believe that the horrors of Nazi Germany should be told to the younger generation so that we can prevent history from repeating itself. So kudos to Jaime for taking up this difficult task of showing others what happened in Nazi Germany. Please keep up the good work because this is too important to just sweep under the rug. And thank you.

Thank you, Jada, for such an extensive and heartfelt review. I'm very glad that you got so much from the tour. I love trying to answer questions from guests. It adds a great deal of depth for everyone (including myself!). Thank you for your questions and observations - much appreciated. Don't worry - I'll be guiding for many a years to come.

What an amazing tour! It was more than I ever could have anticipated. Jaime was so knowledgeable and clearly, honestly, and thoroughly answered all of our questions. The walking pace was perfect if you are an older person or have health issues. Even though this is a very emotional tour, It is not overwhelming because it was more of a political prison for many years. In Jaime’s parting words, “Let us not forget.”

Provided excellent historic insights to understand background and give perspective to the visit. Highlighting the most important element and providing enough time for our own exploration & discovery. All questions where properly answered . Even for not a English native everything was clear and understandable. Guide was constantly reviewing participant needs and provide guidance/assistance when required.

Dachau tour with Jamie as the tour guide: phenomenal

, May 2022
Being a history buff, I was anxious and nervous about visiting this memorial. I have always been bothered by the fact that 1000 years of history of the German people has been defined by those with no knowledge of history by the 12 years of the Reich. Our tour guide, Jamie, was phenomenal in his ability to describe the horrors of Dachau, but yet give us a perspective of hope so that those horrors don’t happen again. If you do take this tour, be sure that Jamie is your guide. This tour was one of the best tours of historical places that I have every experienced. I left emotionally drained.

Dachau is not an easy place to visit, it can be harrowing and tough. I am very glad that you left with a hopeful perspective, even after visiting such a hopeless place. Thank for your review.

Dachau - Well worth the time and not too much of a time commitment
Garrison_R
, May 2022
We enjoyed this excursion very much. It didn’t start too early, 10am, which is perfect after a late night arrival from the West Coast US the night before. The tour was about 4.5 hours total which was just right for something like this. Our tour guide, Jaime, was great. He was very informative, friendly and personable. Navigating through the 10 minute train ride to Dachau and 8 minute bus ride was no problem at all and dropped us off at the entrance of the site. Finished in time at the central train station with enough time to grab a late lunch and enjoy the Glockenspiel at Marionplatz a couple of stops over. All in all, totally worth the short investment in time and a sobering reminder of horrors we should never commit again.

Thanks for leaving such a detailed review! We try to keep on schedule which is usually no problem at all when dealing with the German rail system. Glad you got to see the old city of Munich after the tour! Thanks again! Jamie.

Visiting Dachau is tough as it is such a bleak moment in our history. Our guide took us through in such an empathic way and his knowledge of it was immense. Stronger recommend Jamie for this tour.

The guide was excellent and I was very glad I didn't decide to do it on my own. His experience and knowledge enhanced the trip immensely. He was also helpful beyond the actual tour by helping me buy train ticket to airport and finding inexpensive covid test for travel.

Jaime knows the history of the site and has talked with survivors of incarceration there. He understands the impact facing those on the tour and is matter-of-fact rather than sensationalist I his narrative. It was an informative and moving experience.

The Dachau Tour

Having just toured Dachau with Jaime, I would like to thank him for an insightful, respectful experience. He explained the historical timelines, and the creation of these camps and their horrors within. He engaged with all of our group, and answered all questions with knowledge and sensitivity. The art pieces in the camp, created by artists with personal history there, are memorable and thought provoking; Jaime described the meanings behind them.

Jamie, Irish native, was very well informed, articulate, and passionate about the history of Dachau. He appreciated and made us feel comfortable when asking questions, and encouraged them as he knew it would benefit the others in the tour group. Jamie researches the history of Dachau, interviews survivors, and stays current with the latest available information. He was very conscientious and customer oriented as he walked us through the logistics of getting on the trains and buses to and from Dachau. My wife and I, from Houston, TX highly recommend securing Jamie as your future Dachau tour guide.

Jamie was, undoubtedly, the best guide we had on our journey in Germany. Visiting Dachau is a sensitive manner. It does requires respect. Our guide, Jamie, was providing the tour with an intelligent approach. No show off but sound reflexions.
