Depart from your Granada hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan or meet at a central departure point depending on which option you selected. Ascend to the high hilltop perch of Alhambra Palace, disembark the minivan and sail past long lines at the crowded entrance hall. Set out with your experienced guide to discover the architectural allure of the UNESCO-listed fortress.

Plunge into the opulent palaces, vast courtyards and lavish gardens as you delve into the captivating history of the 9th-century fortress; hear tales and trivia regarding decadent sultans, extravagant emirs and Moorish Kings who formerly inhabited the palace. Visit the complex’s most ancient enclave, the Alcazaba Fortress, in order to ascend the Torre de la Vela and admire spectacular views of the sprawling Spanish city. Stroll through opulent halls and expansive courtyards like the Patio de los Arrayanes and the Ambassador’s Hall; admire the architectural majesty of the Nasrid Palaces; and hear entertaining tales of eccentric emperor Charles V when you visit his eponymous palace.

Wander the gorgeous Generalife Gardens and absorb the botanical beauty of the sculptured landscape; see the verdant splendor of the Patio de la Acequia and Patio de la Sultana, two beautiful courtyards; and gain insight into the exotic flowers and decadent shrubs that decorate the area. Return to the original departure point or enjoy convenient transportation back to your hotel when the tour concludes.  Advance bookings are strongly recommended, as access to the Alhambra is strictly limited to a certain number of visitors each day.

The Alhambra
On a rocky hill that is difficult to access, on the banks of the River Darro, protected by mountains and surrounded by woods, among the oldest quarters in the city, the Alhambra rises up like an imposing castle with reddish tones in its ramparts that prevent the outside world from seeing the delicate beauty they enclose. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and of the court of Granada in the middle of the thirteenth century, after the establishment of the Nasrid kingdom and the construction of the first palace, by the founder king Mohammed ibn Yusuf ben Nasr, better known as Alhamar. The fortress became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers, which house two main areas: the military area, or Alcazaba, the barracks of the royal guard, and the medina or court city, the location of the famous Nasrid Palaces and the remains of the houses of noblemen and plebeians who lived there.

The habitual residence of the kings of Granada, their construction began at the beginning of the 14th century. It was employed for meetings between the ministers of the king and as a courtroom. - Next, we come to the Palace of Comares, which dates back to the era of Yusuf I. This dwelling was erected around the Patio de los Arrayanes (Courtyard of the Myrtles), and its side exits lead to the Sala de los Embajadores (Hall of Ambassadors) and the Sala de la Barca (Hall of the Boat). The Hall of Ambassadors is located inside the Tower of Comares. - The Palace of the Lions, dating back to the era of Muhammed V, is also a royal residence. It is composed of a central courtyard, the Courtyard of the Lions, and halls along each side, the Hall of the Mocarabes, the Hall of the Kings, the Hall of the Two Sisters, the Hall of the Ajimeces, leading on to the mirador Daraxa viewpoint, and the Hall of the Abencerrajes, along with the Harem.

Skip the line ticket is worth it

Good tour of the AlHambra and palaces. The views at certain points are amazing and the detail on the buildings are beautiful. At the start of the day at the meeting point to exchange the voucher for your ticket due to it being a busy time of year it was a a little chaotic with different groups awaiting their tour leaders. I would definitely recommend the skip the line to avoid waiting around in the heat. REMEMBER YOUR PASSPORT as you will need it a certain points (I think about 3 times) The only negative which was a small thing and didn’t really have an impact was my ticket was for a small group between 1-10 people. I found something else stating up to 15 people but I counted 19. The tour guide was informative and pleasant.

Yes to Alhambra, no to our guide

TL;DR- must see, but choose your guides wisely. The bad: I’ve never experienced a more rude and condescending guide, ever. From being late to contradicting wheat we had already been told to telling us he didn’t care what we’d been told he wasn’t the ones messaging us to then telling us it was our fault our tickets were issued for different entry times (which the tour operator handled 100%), at every turn this man, Marco, was quick to tell the group that any issue was basically because of something we did or didn’t do. The good: the Alhambra itself and surrounding property is simply amazing! If you go, you MUST get the “skip the line” option. So much history, beauty and architecture.

Great experience with a great guide

Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The best part was she was very neutral in her historical explanations and didn't lean towards any particular religion or culture. She made sure we made time to see everything with all views and also gave us individual instructions at the end on how to get back to the city.

Wonderful tour of Alhambra

This tour was maybe the best tour I have ever been on. The entire complex is amazingly beautiful, but what makes it more amazing is understanding the history, purpose and architecture surrounding the site. Our guide Asier was amazing. His knowledge of the site was imcredible. You could tell he had a passion for what he was sharing/teaching and not just there for the job. He personalized the tour for our family. He was engaging and helped out children have a great time appreciating Alhambra. The pacing of the tour was perfect. We had a great time. Do not short-change yourself when going to Alhambra. It is beautiful even if you go on your own, but the history will only make the tour more memorable if you have a guide!

Guillermo (our guide) did a spectacular job. He was thorough, informative and managed the timing of the tour perfectly. For all the reviews we’d read about it being too hot, it really was rather pleasant… Highly recommended

Excellent tour! Our guide spoke great English and was very informative. Note the your company has a storefront just north of the entrance. It’s a lot to see and take in for a short time so I recommend staying on the grounds after the tour.

Tour guide was really good!! His name was Alberto I think. Knew a lot and took us to places at different times so we weren’t over crowded with other tours going on. Gave us lots of great spots and time for photos and very informative. Beautiful place, it’s basically what the entire city is know for and built around and worth seeing!

Traveled with family (group of 13). The palace and the surrounding grounds are amazing, but we couldn’t imagine doing the tour without our guide, Carlos. He was very passionate, personable, engaging, and insightful. He provided much more than a rote recitation of facts; he provided depth and context, while engaging our entire group, young and old. We all highly recommend the tour and, especially, Carlos.

Our tour guide was Hamdi Tawfiq and he made this tour such a wonderful experience by sharing his knowledge and just from his personality. He mixed in humor along with all the information he shared about these places. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Alhambra is an amazing place. The gardens were beautiful and the history was so interesting. This tour would have been even better if we had a better tour guide. We selected English for audio language. While most on the tour were English speakers there were two French speakers so our guide spoke French first for them and than English. I think we lost slot of time because if that. Oh well. Still a great place to visit.

Terrible guide

, Jul 2022
Our guide was terrible. He lacked passion, mumbled and just droned on. We paid a lot of money and this guy acted like he could be doing other things than being a guide. For the company that hires guides : please hire locals who are passionate about history and heritage
