Not worth it

Had high hopes for this tour but it’s just not worth it. The biggest problem is the pizza we made was terrible. The bottom crust completely crumbled like chalk in your mouth. Several people at our table were scraping off their undercooked flour bottoms. The gelato was lumpy—despite being told the most important thing about gelato should be it’s smoothness. There were hardly any facts about pizza or Tuscany on the tour. And despite saying this class takes place at a farmhouse, there’s no way of knowing this because it feels like a corporate restaurant. We were quickly ushered downstairs in the basement and weren’t shown any of the garden or ingredients growing outside. At the end of the tour, there was miscommunication between the guide and driver and we ended up waiting for the bus for an hour after the class. Go to literally any other restaurant in Florence and you will have a meal that is leaps and bounds better than what we “learned” how to make.

Learn to make pizza and gelato!

The trip started by asking us to meet up at a very specific spot. So my husband and I grabbed a cab and met the other participants and Guisseppe, the Guide (chef). When we were all present and accounted for, Guisseppe said we were to follow him to the bus which would take us to our Tuscan cooking school. Well we followed him no less than half a mile through semi dark cobblestone streets. I personally have a slipped disc and issues with my feet. This was a hardship for me. Nowhere did the tour description say there would be any type of exertion like this. We spent 11 euros on the cab and ended up just down the road from our hotel! Very aggrivating to say the least. The experience once we got there was very enjoyable however.

So Fun!

Fun as well as informative, not to mention delicious! Beautiful ride up to the farmhouse. Our chef was very friendly and knowledgeable. He explained the function of various ingredients. He went the extra mile to order a cab at the drop-off site for our ride home after the event. He had “Pomp and Circumstance” playing for our “graduation.” Love the recipe book. Only downside: considerable walk from the check-in point to location for transportation pick-up. One member of the group had difficulty keeping up. Our chef was considerate in looking back to ensure she was not left behind. We expected pick-up to be at the check-in point.

This was our last excursion in Florence and was a fantastic way to end our trip! We traveled from the city of Florence, with our chef David, to a small winery to visit their cellar, learn about Super Tuscan wines, and taste their delicious wine. Next, we traveled to the villa for the cooking class. David successfully guided us as we each created our own pizzas and then we made gelato as a group which included one couple and our family of five. We had a very fun experience! The only thing that we would maybe change for next time is to book a class during the day so that we can see the beautiful views during the drive to the villa and the area surrounding the villa.

Super fun family excursion. We only had 6 people in our group including the 4 of us and pizza making and gelato class with chef David was engaging, interesting and most of all fun for kids and adults. It's one of the highlights of our trip and we'd highly recommend it.

I did this activity twice, once with Nick and once with Giuseppe and Kevin. Each had different tricks to making the pizza dough and the gelato. We went out into the Tuscan countryside and tasted wine at a nearby winery and had as much wine as we wanted as we made the pizza. I recommend the rosé.

The chefs teaching the class were great teachers and very entertaining. I would recommend everyone take a cooking class while visiting Tuscany. The food turned out great, the farm was beautiful and the wine tasty. Its is about a 25 minute drive to the location and they weren't planning on providing any commentary on the areas we were passing or really any information about the area or history. A few people in the group were requesting this and they finally caved and provided some info. I would hope they know if they are taking visitors on a 25 minute drive that they should entertain the guests with knowledge about their city. I also did feel like it was a little rushed. As soon as we were done eating, they had already cleaned up and were ready to take us back. A little more time to relax after eating would have gone a long way.
