How to Get There

Villa Artimino is in the hills of Carmignano in Artimino, Tuscany. From Florence, drive west along SS67 about 16 miles (26 kilometers) and expect the trip to take about 45 minutes. As for public transportation, there is no direct route, so take the train to Signa, then the NMB bus toxa0Montefortino, and the Lam Azz bus to Artimino.

When to Get There

Villa Artimino is open year-round. The best times to visit Tuscany, in terms of the most temperate and pleasurable climate, is during springtime (April, May, June) and autumn (September and October). Perennially a popular destination, crowds are always present in Tuscany, though start to diminish in October and November.

Chimneys, Chimneys, Chimneys In the times of the Medici, Villa Artimino was known as La Ferdinanda after its owner Ferdinando, but it also has a second nickname, Villa dei Cento Camini (Villa of 100 Chimneys). Ferdinando I suffered from gout and demanded a modern (for that time) heating system be installed. So in every room, a chimney was built, each one different from the other. And now, the villa’s trademark multitude of chimneys are visible from miles away.
