Pinocchio Park (Parco di Pinocchio) Tours

The Tuscan town of Collodi was the birthplace of Carlo Lorenzini, the writer who dreamed up the world’s most beloved wooden boy. The town is also home to an old-school theme park dedicated to the adventurous hero Pinocchio, which welcomes younger tots with vintage rides and other gentle pleasures from the bygone days of fairy tales.
The Basics
The endearing Pinocchio Park has remained virtually unchanged since it opened in the 1950s. An open-air homage to the classic children’s story The Adventures of Pinocchio, this spot is ideal for families with toddlers and young children. Attractions include a sculpture path, play structures inspired by characters and episodes from the story, merry-go-rounds and other rides dating from the park’s opening, a kid-sized adventure park with a zip-line, and puppet shows.
Things to Know Before You Go
How to Get There
Pinocchio Park is located in the town of Collodi, along the A11 highway between Florence and Lucca. There is no public transportation to the park, so you’ll need to visit by car.
When to Get There
The park is open all week long from March through October and on weekends in the winter. The attractions are all outside, so choose a clear day with mild temperatures to visit.
The Garzoni Gardens and Butterfly House
Just steps from Pinocchio Park, Collodi’s Villa Garzoni Garden and Butterfly House are also popular destinations for families. The 16th-century gardens are part of the Garzoni Villa estate and feature fountains, lush greenery, and an elegant baroque design. The adjacent butterfly house is a fun stop for kids and adults and contains colorful specimens from across the globe.
