The Basics

Many of Pienza’s most memorable spots were built during a three-year period. The town’s historic center is the Piazza Pio II, which is surrounded by the Palazzo Piccolomini, the Palazzo Borgia, and a stunning cathedral. The square is also home to restaurants and cafés. Other local highlights include the Pieve di Corsignano, a 12th-century church located just down the hill from the town’s center, and the town’s famous local cheese, Pecorino di Pienza.xa0

Many tours of Tuscany visit Pienza along with neighboring Val D’Orcia towns, including Siena, Montalcino, and Montepulciano. You can also opt for a tour that focuses on the area’s traditional foods and wines, including Pienza’s famous cheese.

From Florence:Val d'Orcia Wine tour,Brunello Montalcino,Pienza and Montepulciano
Mattia, our tour guide, was awesome, punctual and the communication was great. We had a lot of fun during the Montepulciano wine tasting, our sommelier was superb. Then, the views during lunch were amazing I just wish the service at the restaurant would have been better. The last tasting at Montalcino was also excellent. Would recommend.

Small-Group Montepulciano and Pienza Day Trip from Siena
We had a lovely day trip from Siena to Pienza and Montepluciano with TuscanEscapes Tours. The eight hour tour included an unbelievable lunch stop at Podore I’ll Casale along with a nice visit to Pienza and Montepluciano. Our guide was very cool and fun to be with as well as very knowledgeable. Lastly, we had a fun wine tasting De’Ricci in Montepluciano and was able to learn a lot about the historic building and wine making family. A wonderful day!

From Florence:Val d'Orcia Wine tour,Brunello Montalcino,Pienza and Montepulciano
Mattia and the Keys to Italy company gave us a tour throughout the Valdorcia region of Tuscany that we'll never forget. The tour included 3 stops: (1) a morning wine tasting in the village of Montepulciano, (2) lunch at a restaurant in the small village of Pienza, (3) and an afternoon winery tour and tasting in Montalcino. We left at 8AM and returned to Florence around 7:30PM. You spend quite some time in the van, but you are coming from Florence and covering a lot of ground. Worth it. All of our hosts were gracious, spoke great English, were happy to have us, and provided much more than they needed to. If you are into Montepulciano and Montalcino wines, this is the best you'll get considering how much distance you cover in one day. Everyone was knowledgeable, down to earth, proud of the product/service they provide, and left an impression on our group. We were a group of 4 (two couples). Highly recommend and this is a great / unique alternative to Chianti.

Alberto picked us in piazza Antinori, it was a nice drive through beautiful countryside of Tuscany first to Montalcino where we had a winery visit, Brunello wine was fantastic. Than a delicious lunch followed by a short walk in Pienza, which is a jem. Than in Montepulciano we visited an underground cellar again with traditional food and some more wine.

I picked this your for the three towns where we’d never visited. The countryside was gorgeous. I’m not a red wine person m, but the first vineyard was ok. In Pienza we had a delicious lunch on a terrace overlooking an incredible view of the valley. On the third stop we skipped the wine tasting and wandered around town. The van was nicer than a huge bus!

We loved it

From Florence:Val d'Orcia Wine tour,Brunello Montalcino,Pienza and Montepulciano
We visited 4 wineries and were offered many great wines, snacks and grappas but the most rememberable was the tour to a winery in Montepulciano where we visited medieval wine cellars. Tour guides were very knowledgeable and told us also many facts about the history. The lunch in Pienza had the best view and amazing food.

Tour guide should have known that the bathroom was near the bus instead of sending me all the way back up the main street.
