The Basics

There are several options when it comes to ascending Mt. Titlis. You can purchase a cable car ticket and make your own way to Engelberg, then set off on a journey to the summit independently. Alternatively, organized tours depart from Zurich and Lucerne, and include transportation to and from Engelberg. During winter, many guided tours incorporate visits to nearby well-known sights such as the Lion Monument and offer the option to add on a supervised snow sports experience, like tubing or skiing on beginner-friendly slopes. In the warmer months, guided hiking tours are available.

From Lucerne - Engelberg, Cheese, Trübsee, and Mt. Titlis Discovery Private Tour
This tour was awesome because of my guide - JONAS. There is not as much to this tour as I had in my mind from reading the description. Be prepared - there is hiking. The top of Mt. Titlis is beautiful and quite a relief from the 90 degree weather in Lucerne in July. Walking across the suspended bridge and through the glacier were highlights and notably remarkable! The cheese tasting is not an organized tasting, per se. It consisted of Jonas bringing cheeses, bread and meat and sitting on a bench tasting the cheese. It was quite good but I did have in my mind we were going to a cheese factory where I would see how they make cheese - this was my fault. Again, Jonas made the trip. Easy to talk to, very knowledgeable and he knew exactly where he was going. Highly recommend any tour by Jonas!

4-Day Switzerland Tour from Zurich Including Mt. Titlis Cable Car
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Gave us a great taste of many of Switzerland’s biggest attractions and cities. Loved the cable car ride and view from Mt Titles. Train ride to the Matterhorn was expensive but worth it. Hotel Alex at Zermaat was spectacular.

Ulrich was very personable and easy going. He made our excursion enjoyable, providing many interesting facts that showcased his knowledge, and his love for Switzerland. We would definitely sign up for another excursion with Ulrich. We went in September and had great weather. This is very important.

The planning and the execution was exceptionally good. The handling of the baggage to and from hotels, was an added benefit which I did not expect.

6-Day Switzerland Tour from Zurich including Mt. Titlis Cable Car
This tour was so good. Everything arranged for us, no handling of our luggage made this tour a breeze. Our itinerary was very well organised we had guided tours as well as free time to explore on our own in several cities. Clear directions pointed us in the right directions during our free time enabling us to choose what we wanted too see. All the hotel meals were of a high quality, wonderful views, large bathrooms and exquisite linen and towels. Our driver was very careful, the coach was very clean and had seat belts.

From Zurich - Engelberg, Cheese, Trübsee, and Mt. Titlis Discovery Private Tour
Outstanding tour! We had a family group whose ages were from 12-75; and everyone was well accommodated. The guide (Jonas) was knowledgable, friendly, professional & took great care to ensure everyone had a great time. The support staff (Lina) reached out to us before hand with great tips for our time in Zurich, as well to make sure we were well prepared for our day trip. Yes - you will ride the train & it is totally worth it! Our guide made it timed perfectly & worth the authentic experience. As we had a little time (& energy) left in our day, our guide encouraged a stop on our return in Lucerne for a quick walk about. We are looking forward to using this tour company in a future trip! THANK YOU!

From Zurich - Engelberg, Cheese, Trübsee, and Mt. Titlis Discovery Private Tour
We had an amazing tour with Lena (spelling?) on September 6th. She met us at the airport, gave us an overview of the day and some tips (changing shoes). It is great to have a guide that is knowledgeable and can adjust plans as needed. Any time something came up, Lena would quickly adjust. For example, some persons in the party had bad knees so she helped shorten some routes. She also gave great information without sounding like it was a lecture or a manual. She was engaging with everyone and made sure everyone was part of the conversation (and gave us time to just take everything in. Engelberg was a cute town with great cheese. Mount Titlis had spectacular views and Lucerne was picturesque.

4-Day Switzerland Tour from Zurich Including Mt. Titlis Cable Car
This is the most well rounded tour! We drove through so many cute villages, stayed in the most beautiful mountain towns, and toured industrial cities. Interlaken and Zermatt were spectacular destinations. I recommend this for travelers who love the country and site seeing. The whole route was filled with beauty, even the drive between stops. However, because of the short duration, every hour is accounted for, therefore you miss out on optimal time for souvenir shopping and submerging yourself in the local culture. But if you are looking for a tour that takes you to all the best stops, and a well rounded view of Switzerland, this one is for you!

How to Get There

The journey to the top of Mt. Titlis begins at Engelberg, which is connected to Lucerne by train. From Engelberg train station, it’s a 10-minute walk to the Titlis Valley station, where the Titlis Xpress cable car connects first to Trubsee and then on to Stand. From Stand, the revolving Rotair cable car carries passengers to the top. Many visitors opt for hassle-free tours from Lucerne or Zurich, which include round-trip transportation.

When to Get There

Mt. Titlis is breathtaking year-round. Go between December and March if you plan on skiing. Early mornings are quietest, and the best views are during clear weather—though when that will be is anyone’s guess. Note that the Titlis Rotair cableway closes for maintenance work for a couple of weeks around November.

What to Expect at the Summit Station

There is no shortage of fun to be had at the Mt. Titlis summit station. You’ll find several restaurants to choose from, a glacier cave with carved ice structures inside, and the nerve-testing Cliff Walk, one of Europe’s highest suspension bridges. Next to the Cliff Walk is the Ice Flyer chairlift, which carries passengers over the frozen crevasses of the glacier to Glacier Park, where you can go tubing—racing down the slopes on a rubber tire.
