The Basics

One of Salzburg’s major landmarks, Salzburg fortress is included in most city sightseeing tours along with other attractions such as Salzburg Old Town, Mozart’s Square, Salzburg Cathedral, and the Horse Fountain. Salzach River cruises allow you to view the fortress from multiple vantage points, and often include a candle-lit dinner. To see the castle on your own schedule, visit on a hop-on hop-off tour or purchase a Salzburg Card, which includes discounted entrance to the fortress and other city attractions.

It’s also possible to visit Hohensalzburg Fortress (also known as Hohensalzburg Castle) on a day trip from Ljubljana, Vienna, Munich, or Prague. Excursions that combine visits to Salzburg, Melk, and Hallstatt are ideal if you have one or two full days to explore, while customized private day trips are ideal for time-pressed travelers.

Amazing experience. Would definitely recommend. Food was really tasty and service was good too. Concert was impressive. Attending the concert on top of the hill with amazing view was one of the best things of our trip to Salzburg

Great value, excellent performance - here's some tips

Best of Mozart Concert and Dinner or VIP Dinner at Fortress Hohensalzburg
This was an excellent evening event for anyone wanting a "night out" with dinner and fine music. Here are a few tips that will make your evening more enjoyable. 1. Plan your walk to the funicular. Have a drink at 530 in the Old Town close to the Fortress and then leisurely get on the funicular. Don't leave your hotel at 5 pm and expect to navigate the narrow passages feeling relaxed. Its busy, Google maps is picky, and you'll feel rushed. 2. Purchase the VIP or Golden VIP. If you purchase the lowest price ticket, they place you at the back of the room and your experience is severely limited. Its only a few euros more for Cat 1. We learned from this one. 3. Wine is available before the performance and you can bring your glass into the event. Its not expensive. Have only 1 glass of wine at dinner, then buy a second when you enter the show. Bottles are pricey, so just get a glass. 4. Bring a sweater or shawl to wear after the event - it will be cool outside when you leave. 5. Opt for the most comfortable shoes you have as their are many stone steps to the performance room and you will truly appreciate this advice as you make your way up :) 6. Enjoy the show!
