My guide was extremely knowledgeable didn't rush answered all questions and made a very pleasurable experience. Would highly recommend her as a guide. I have friend clming to Rome in May and will recommend Viator.
Discover the Vatican on a tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican Museums. Navigate the vast complex of rooms, artwork, and history with a guide, who brings the ancient collection to life. Skip all the entrance lines to explore halls such as the Gallery of the Maps and Raphael’s Rooms; step inside the Sistine Chapel to admire ‘The Creation of Adam’ by Michelangelo; and hear little-known tales about sacred St. Peter’s Basilica. Choose from several departures, or upgrade to an evening experience or small-group tour with 12 people.
The tour guide speaks fluent English, very knowledgeable and informative. The tour is very interesting as we learned a lot of the Roman history and how the Colosseum was built. Palantino Hills and the Roman forum are worth to visit.
Skip the entrance line at the Colosseum so you won’t waste any time getting inside to marvel at this Roman icon. On this walking tour of Ancient Rome, you’ll explore the amphitheater’s first and second levels with a guide, who entertains you with tales of gruesome gladiator battles. Then visit the Roman Forum to see its ancient ruins like the Temple of Julius Caesar. This tour is limited to 25 people. If you want to enhance your experience, upgrade to a tour of the Colosseum’s restricted underground chambers, arena and upper tier.
The tour was ok , the lunch was delicious, but in general it was rush, the stop at Napoli was a disaster, the bus stopped by the pier, very long and very fast walk to the plaza, not enough time to enjoy and spent 20 minutes to go to the bathrooms and no bus ride around the city. Walking back to the bus was worse, like running a marathon. Not what was advertised.
Me and my boyfriend came to Rome for a few days and wanted to see all the sights and fit in a trip to Pompeii.
After finding out about this day trip, We were really excited about the day. we had never done a guided tour before and didnt know what to expect. The meeting place was very easy to find. The tour guide, Enrica, makes you feel very welcome from start to finish. She was very funny, full if energy and extremely knowledgeable about Italy in general which added tremendous value. The bus driver, antonio, was also excellent the bus ride was very comforable especially coming from someone who gets travel sickness the drive was very smooth and the coach was lovely. The Pompei tour guide, George, was very insightful and you could tell he was passionate about the historical site.
I would advise you to travel light as it's a long day and you walk some miles so wear comfy shoes!.
Constructive criticism- our trip to Napoli could have been a little longer as we felt a little rushed though we appreciated that we had a schedule to keep. Obviously this isnt relevant to anyone that is lucky enough to see vesuvius.
Overall I would reccomend this trip to anybody and a thoroughly deserved 5*.
Take a day out of your Rome vacation to get acquainted with Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii. This day trip to Pompeii includes a steady-paced hike up Mt. Vesuvius (summer only) or a visit to Naples when Vesuvius is closed in winter, plus a pizza lunch and a tour of the UNESCO-listed digs at Pompeii. Hear the history from a local guide and admire artifacts that date back to the infamous Mt. Vesuvius eruption of AD 79.
Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome Small-Group Tour
The Underground Tour
, Feb 2020
What an absolutely great tour. Our Guide Marta was unbelievable in her complete knowledge of all things and utilized visual aids to show you what a number of the structures looked like before time had taken its toll. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone especially with the small group/one on one atmosphere that Livitaly provides. You cannot get the type of experience we were given in a large group the small 6 person group is the only way to go and with the small expense.
Anastasia was a wonderful and informative guide. It was great to have a small group particularly because I am such a slow coach. She made this mass of ruins very much alive and make sense. It had been a treat for Tristan's birthday and he loved it. Thank you
We really enjoyed our tour of the Colosseum. Giuseppina is a wonderful tour guide. She is so knowledgeable. So much information delivered with humour. She is so warm and friendly. She even paid for us to use the toilets, as we had no change. That's really going the extra mile! Would highly recommend this tour with Giuseppina!
See the secrets of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and the Roman Forum on this small-group. With your knowledgeable guide, skip the long entrance lines at each attraction. Explore the Colosseum's underground chambers, which are off-limits to most of the public each day and discover Palatine Hill and the ancient ruins of the Roman Forum. Limited to just six people, this tour provides a more intimate experience.
Fantastic tour with such a lovely knowledgeable personable guide named Laura.
Enchanting being amongst the splendour without any crowds and being guided to the magic ‘greatest hits’ and not feeling overwhelmed. Well worth the extra money for such a special tour.
I highly suggest going to the dome of St. Peter’s after the tour (extra 8 euros - lots of steps but the view is amazing !!
Tens of thousands of people visit the Vatican Museums each day to see St. Peter’s Basilica, masterpieces by the likes of Michelangelo and Raphael, and the Sistine Chapel. Get inside the UNESCO-listed complex before it opens to the general public on this early access tour that’s limited to just 12 participants. Enter through a reserved doorway to skip the lines, and stay a step ahead of the large crowds on this carefully planned route that ensures you make the most of your time.
The Colosseum is amazing and the arena floor tour is excellent. However this tour was so slow as to be annoying. From our meeting time to actually entering the Colosseum it was one hour. What a waste of time. And the inside tour guide was so slow, walked slow, moved slow,
On this Colosseum underground tour, you can experience this historic Rome icon to the fullest with access to areas that are typically closed to the public—the underground chambers and the arena floor. After skipping the main entrance line, explore the Colosseum with an informative guide, who shares stories about life in Ancient Rome. Get the rare chance to walk through the tunnels, stand where gladiators stood and enjoy a panoramic view. Then visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill to complete your tour of Rome’s top ancient sites.
The tour was very good, enlightening, and the tour guide was very good and knowledgeable.
Flaws were that the short distance headphone guide allowing you to listen to the guide is too short and you need to be close to the guide to hear what was being said. However, as these were handed out by the Vatican this isn't a criticism of the guide at all.
The guide though the museums could have done with being longer as there were areas we didn't see, that said with some many people and considering the full tour this is would have made it better but we would still go again knowing what we do now.
This is really a must do.
Discover Vatican City including the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Sistine Chapel. Home to the world’s largest private portfolio of artwork, the Vatican is a must-see for visitors to Rome, and the best way to explore it is with a guide. Skip the Line: Crypts and Roman Catacombs Small-Group Walking Tour
Three interesting and enjoyable hours in Rome's Crypts and Catacombs
, Feb 2020
John was an extremely knowledgeable and personable guide who took us through our trip to the Catacombs and Crypts for 3 hrs. Our tour started promptly. The group was of a size that made it easy to hear all explanations and ask questions. The midi bus was comfortable and the driver was excellent, moving us quickly through Rome's streets. Perhaps most importantly, we finished the tour with a sense that we had truly seen and experienced what was advertised. All in all an excellent experience
Go underground to see Rome’s ancient catacombs and crypts on a half-day tour. Visit the Domitilla Catacomb and Basilica of San Clemente with skip-the-line access, plus visit the Capuchin Crypt, where you’ll see a Caravaggio painting and marvel at a chapel made entirely out of human bones. Learn about past burial customs and secret Christian worship spots during this fascinating exploration into the history of Rome.
The tour is well thought out--just the right time at each stop, some free time, gorgeous towns and scenery, excellent information. And the meal was far, far above our expectations, in a gorgeous old farmhouse with some of the most excellent we had in our entire 6 days in Italy. Our guide, Antonina, was lovely, witty, and generous. My kids aged 22, 20 and 17 all loved it too.
Take a Tuscany tour from Rome and see the best of the captivating Val d’Orcia region, near Siena. With a local guide at your side, discover countryside where historic hilltowns perch on sun-drenched hills and Tuscan farms dot the landscape. Visit the wine towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino, and enjoy free time to explore Pienza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wine tasting and lunch at a farm is included.
We were on the buses for over an hour with the same music playing over and over in between info spots. There surely must be something else to be said about Rome that could fill the gaps. What was said appeared very basic and didn't exactly over inform. I thought quite childish really.
Meh, between the real good ones (Berlin and Edinburgh) and the OK ones (Liverpool) the poor ones (Brussels) and the actively hostile ones (New York City, “leave a tip! DeBlasio is ruining the city! Get back in line even if you don’t want your picture taken for $52”) Rome would probably fall into the poor category. From the confusing purchase options on line to being yelled at by the vendor as to where to go to catch the bus, being told by the grumpy ticket lady that I could not go to the Coliseum that day to being left totally on my own at the Vatican, what did I pay an exorbitant amount of money for? Does it get you around? Yeah. Do you see most of the main sites? Yeah. Try the Big Bus instead. Hop on Hop off is like the fat champion not caring if it throws a knockout punch. It already has your money.
Take a Rome hop-on hop-off tour by open-top bus, and spend time city sightseeing as you travel past attractions such as the Colosseum and Vatican City. Relax aboard the double-decker Rome tour bus, listen to the audio commentary and hop on and off at any of the stops. Select a sightseeing ticket that’s valid for 24 or 48 hours, or pick an upgrade option to include entry to the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, Roman Forum and more.

I recently attended the food tour and Valeria was an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable about Roman food and the local area. The food we tasted was excellent, - the suppli the gelato were particularly great. I also enjoyed the market and finding out the seasonal foods/ dishes for Winter.

Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Guided Tour | Skip the Line Tickets
Brought the Colosseum to life
, Feb 2020
Our tour guide Simone was amazing. She was so knowledgable of all aspects of Roman History, Architecture, Economics. We could not stump her. She had a great sense of humor and spoke perfect English. She was even so kind as to offer to take photos for different guests not even in our tour group. She really brought the Colosseum and Palantine Hills to life. I highly recommend this tour! You will learn so much that can't be pieced together if you go there on you own.
I cannot recommend this tour enough! Lucia was one of the best guides I've ever had throughout my years of traveling! She keeps you entertained and gives you plenty of time to explore and get photos! She even recommended a great place to eat after the tour was done! If you want a thorough but fun guided tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum definitely do this done! Grazie Lucia!!
Take a guided tour of the Colosseum, including skip-the-line admission, to get the most out of your visit. By exploring the amphitheater’s first and second tiers with an official Colosseum guide, who has a background in history, art, and archaeology, learn about the origins of this iconic Rome landmark. Hear stories about gladiator battles and Roman emperors, and marvel at the engineering of the ancient structure. Then visit Palatine Hill and the ruins of the Roman Forum.
This tour was good, however it wasn't what we expected. There were a lot of groups doing the same 'before opening' tour so the place was still fairly packed (though admittedly much less so). Our guide was knowledgeable and lead us through the building to the Sistine Chapel, stopping along the way to give us some interesting facts. He then left us to explore the rest of the museums and the Vatican itself at our own convenience.
Although it was very early in the morning, we had a wonderful one hour tour through some parts of the vatican museums. Of course it is not possible to see all the astonishing art pieces during such a short period of the time but that was not our goal anyway. We wanted to see the sistine chapel with enough time and space to walk around inside of it so that we could see all the beautiful paintings and this tour made it possible. After all the explanations our guide Gigi had given us, he stoped his tour in front of the entrance of the chapel because it is not allowed to talk inside and so we had about two hours left to see the chapel, and all the other parts of the museums that we were interested in, before they opened their doors for the entire public. My only point of critique is that our lovely guide, who did really a good job, talked a little bit to fast. But if you go to bed early enough the day before your tour will take place and if you drink a nice espresso immediatly (which is possible at a little cafe near the entrance of the museums) before the tour starts it should be no problem.
Visit the Sistine Chapel before it opens to the general public with this early-access ticket to the Vatican Museums complex. Explore at your own pace, stopping to admire Michelangelo’s famous ceiling fresco and his other works in a tranquil, crowd-free atmosphere. See the Vatican museums, Vatican Crypts, and St. Peter's Basilica before your visit ends.
Combine a trip to two of Rome’s greatest sites in one day. Take advantage of special no-wait entry at the Vatican and skip-the-line access to the Colosseum during this full-day tour. While others wait in line, you experience the majesty of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica, followed by the ancient glory of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman Forum, all with an expert guide.
Skip-the-Line Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's Basilica Group Tour
, Feb 2020
Just got home from a weekend in Rome. We used the guided Vatican tour and it was great. Our tour guide Talia (I think, apologies if not) was very friendly and knowledgable, and quite funny. As she said, there is too much to actually take in in one visit. The place is huge. The artwork is amazing and very powerful. Also the fact you get to go in the church at the end so you don’t have to queue in the line outside. Well worth the money as you go straight in apart from the security which is understandable. Tip though, don’t take any large bags in with you as you have to leave them with security and have to walk all the way to the front once you have finished the tour to collect them.
This tour was great and Christina was an excellent guide. I really appreciated her explaining in detail the sistine chapel history and artwork before we went in. She did it in an interesting and entertaining way.
Discover the sacred and artistic treasures of the Vatican on an immersive tour led by an art historian guide. Skip the long lines with priority access, and see some of the most important masterpieces in the Vatican Museum’s immense collection. From $297.90 (Price varies by group size )
Still in Awe
, Feb 2020
Marco was a fantastic and knowledgeable guide. We arrived before opening and were pleasantly surprised by the lack of people. They were still mopping!
Everything was breathtaking, as expected.
Upon exiting and seeing the queue waiting to get in...we were thrilled!
Definitely worth every penny.
This tour was very expensive and felt a little rushed through the Vatican museums. We did only have three hours but there was so much to see there is no way it would be enough time. That said the guide was amazing and knew her history and art. She provided great detail and we could not be happier with her knowledge. Being there before the crowd was wonderful and highly recommended.
We were so happy we booked this tour! Our tour guide was excellent! I am bad with names, I think it was Alicia. We did not have to wait in the lines, which is wonderful when you only have a day to tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable, we went away very impressed. She also went out of her way to help us get to our next tour. Well worth the money.

Our Guide Davide was absolutely knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour and would absolutely recommend Livitaly tours to anyone who wants to enjoy a very private and intimate learning experience.
The early morning tour is the best if you want to miss the big crowd. Our guide Massimo was exceptional. He explained everything with a little punch of humor which made it really interesting to listen to him all the time.
I wish we had more time for everything and could keep Guilia with us all day! Very informative and even I got very ill in the Sistine but she was so caring and helpful! To say everything is overwhelming is understated! Do the small exclusive tour!

We left from Rome very early, the trip was expected to be 12 hours. We had a very nice and comfortable Mercedes van and an excellent driver. Our tour guide was Georgia. She was exceptional. Her knowledge of the history and areas of our visit were also part of the entire package which made for a wonderful trip. We were amazed with our visit to Pompeii, it should be on everyone's list when visiting Italy. The Amalfi coast "Sorrento" was a picture postcard. The drive along the sea was beyond words. We spent a few hours in the city of Sorrento, this was to have lunch and shop, the shopping was great and so was the food. Don't forget to sample the Lemoncello here. If you go to Rome take a full day and travel on this excursion, you won't regret it.

It was a wonderful experience. In a short time we covered several sites.
Our guide was very pleasant and accommodating. She went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. The whole experience was amazing. Loved Rome

Loved the Vatican and chapel

The tour company was great to work with for the overall tour, I would use again for other tours. Happy with the driver - very prompt. Happy with tour guide at Pompeii.
Don’t do this tour during off-season months. You are paying for an hour stop at a place that is completely shut down. This tour should have been removed as an option for December. Paid full price to not get the real Positano experience. It is a Rip-off paying for the extra stop during off-season.

Roman Gladiator School: Learn How to Become a Gladiator
From $100.93 (Price varies by group size )
, Jan 2020
Fantastic and a highlight of my 11 year old. Loved the school and the experience. One child was a bit reluctant, but the group was happy to swap him out with my husband. It was fantastic and really interesting to learn about the training and fighting techniques safely.
GIve your kids a historical and physical Roman boot camp!
, Jan 2020
A very fun and enjoyable session. As long as you are willing to 'get into the spirit of it', the instructor takes you through history of Rome, the Legions and Gladiators, then conducts a mock boot camp. Basic sword attack and defense strokes along with fitness accompanied by lots of attitude!
Adding my voice to the chorus of praise - this was just an incredibly fun and informative way to get to know more about Roman history. The two young men who ran the show were incredible - fun, nice, knowledgeable...just wonderful. The "warriors" got to try on different helmets and learn about their uses. They got to hold different weapons and learn about them. They ran a crazy training course three times, then practiced offensive and defensive moves with little shields and wooden swords. They battled each other, then battled the guys from Gruppo Storico, who managed to help everyone "win" without making it too obvious. It was an absolutely perfect way to get a teen and a tween into the spirit of seeing the Colosseum and other historic sites. Don't hesitate - this will not disappoint!
Find out what it takes to be an ancient Roman gladiator at the Gladiator School of Rome. During a hands-on lesson with instructors from the Historic Group of Rome, learn how to fight with authentic weapons of the time while wearing a traditional gladiator tunic and belt. Located on the Appian Way, not far from the Colosseum, this class is a unique and interactive way to learn about ancient Roman history, sports, and culture. Select a lesson time when booking.
Small-Group Pasta Making with a Local Chef in Rome
So much fun! (and Tasty!)
, Jan 2020
Stefano and Rafaella (our chefs for the evening) were outstanding! We had a large U.S. based group visiting Italy. Everything was well organized from the meeting point, to the walk to the event, through to enjoying dinner, plenty of wine, etc. I'd highly recommend!
We enjoyed the small-group pasta making experience. The most hands-on part of the evening is the actually making of the pasta, which was taught to us as a step-by-step process. Drinks not quite as free-flowing as expected. The pasta-making class was actually in an apartment complex. Dessert on offer was store-bought Panetone, which while nice was a bit unexpected, after a prepared antipasto and then the made pasta.
We had a group of six (range in age from 20 - 50) and all had a great time. Not a cook by any means but now excited to make pasta for friends and family. The instructors were great, funny, and a real pleasure. What a way to end a wonderful trip to Rome.
Learn to make pasta by hand with a professional chef-instructor for a truly memorable experience in Rome. Your 3.5-hour cooking class takes place in an airy loft apartment and covers the basics of different styles of pasta. Nibble on light appetizers and a glass of prosecco as you begin to prepare the pasta meal. When you have finished, enjoy your dinner at a table on the rooftop terrace with great views. You can also ask your instructor about Italian cuisine and tips for your time in Rome.
We did a tour of the Vatican museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica in Dec 19. It was a truly wonderful experience and this is due mostly to our exceptional tour guide - Andrea. She was very informative and friendly. Definitely worth investing in this tour!!
We understood that the lines would not be as long in January as they were when we visited in July...maybe...but booking this tour was not only a real value we also learned a lot. Our guide was just so knowledgeable and she kept the entire group...23 individuals...interested throughout the entire tour. We had sufficient time in the museum but lots of time in the Sistine Chapel and St Peter Basilica. There was a visiting Ambassador which sectioned off a good bit of the Basilica but our guide knew the layout so well that she moved us around and we saw so much. I would definitely book this tour again.
