The Basics

Lucerne city tours will take you to the lake’s most memorable viewpoint: looking out over the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrucke) from the shore of Old Town. Alternatively, enjoy a hike around the lakeside villas; take the Golden round trip and travel by boat, cogwheel railway, and aerial cableway to the most spectacular viewpoints on Mount Pilatus; or gaze down over Lucerne from the summit of Mount Rigi.

Great views and the audio tour was different than walking tour
It was a lovely boat ride and the headsets worked perfectly. The audio portion starts about 5 minutes after the cruise begins. You will likely need to ask where they are. Sit on the against the boat or you’ll have people taking selfies and pics on front of you the entire time. The views are incredible and a totally different tour than the walking tour (which I recommend).

The scenic mountains and shorelines were gorgeous. The Boat was very clean, however don’t expect commentary as there is none.

Lake Lucerne Panoramic Sightseeing Cruise
This was a beautiful boat ride. Unfortunately, they are still holding back the audio commentary "due to Covid." But no crew member was even wearing a mask, so why is there a Covid concern about the audio??

Lucerne Day Trip from Zurich Including Lake Lucerne Cruise
We went to Lucerne and enjoyed it but decided to pay more money and continue on the bus to Mt Pilatus. We are so glad we did. It was a wonderful experience. We were in Europe 16 days and Mt. Pilatus and Paris were the highlights of our trip.

From Basel - Mt. Pilatus Heritage with a cruise on Lake of Lucerne Private Tour
Our favorite part of our trip was our tour guide, Lina! Not only did we learn a lot of the history, we also learned about what it’s like to live in Switzerland. We not only had an excellent tour guide, we also made a friend. It was truly wonderful.

Lake Lucerne Peninsula e-Bike Tour
Luis was an amazing guide! Friendly and kind! We wanted to bike around Lucerne but didn’t want to have to worry about navigating ourselves. This tour was the perfect way to take a ride without the stress of finding our way. Plus, with Luis we had the added bonus of great company! Thank you for taking such good care of us!

Lake Lucerne Peninsula e-Bike Tour
We had a terrific time with our guide Luis! He took care about us so lovely, he showed us the the most beautiful parts of Luzern far away from the crowed spots of Luzern. We biked on perfect save trails. We had a lot of fun. Luis is just a great person!

Chocolate Tasting with Lake Trip and City Tour: The Ultimate Lucerne Experience
Luis was a great tour guide who is very knowledgable about the history of the region. He is great with communication, friendly, and has a sense of humor. It was a semi private tour. Started early morning with just me and my Mom met outside the Lucerne train station and took the train with him to a small village where the Aeschbach chocolate factory was. We made a custom chocolate bar with toppings. We entered a room that reminded me of Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory. We had a variety of chocolate tastings and saw the production line through a window. Then we went to the gift shop. Second thing on the agenda was the walking tour. We picked up 3 people waiting back at Lucerne train station. We learned about the history of Lucerne, walked up a hill then back down, took a trolly lift up to the castle hotel and took pictures of the view of Lucerne from atop the hill. The last thing was a boat ride on Lake Lucerne just me and Mom without the tour guide. Views were amazing!

How to Get There

Lake Lucerne is located in Central Switzerland, 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of Zurich, or roughly 45 minutes by train. Trains run regularly from Zurich to the city of Lucerne, located on the lake’s northwest shore. Daily ferries run between Lucerne city and Fluelen at the southeast tip of the lake, taking about three hours one way and stopping at lakeside towns such as Vitznau, Beckenried, and Brunnen. You can also travel to different lakeside attractions on a sightseeing boat tour.

Day Trips in the Lake Lucerne Region

Once you’ve scaled the summit of Mount Rigi and ridden the world’s steepest cog railway to the top of Mount Pilatus, brave a ride to the “Top of Europe” at Jungfraujoch or hike the notorious Eiger Trail around the North Face of Eiger Mountain. You could also visit the alpine village of Engelberg and take in the views from Mount Titlis, ride the open-air cable car to the top of Mount Stanserhorn, or take a ride on the Golden Pass Scenic Train.
